❓ Have a question? We probably have the answer.

Everything you need to know about StashFlow, before getting started.

🚀 General

What exactly is StashFlow?

StashFlow is a free and local personal finance analysis tool. You import your bank transactions from a CSV file, we show you where your money goes, we automatically detect your fixed charges, and we help you avoid overdraft. It's simple, effective, and most importantly: your data stays on your device, never on our servers. StashFlow is not a bank. It's a decision-support tool that helps you better understand your cashflow.

Is StashFlow free?

Yes, StashFlow is 100% free and will always remain so. No account to create, no credit card required, no trial period that turns into a paid subscription. We're also working on a Pro version with advanced features, but the free version will remain complete and functional. The free version already includes everything you need to analyze your finances and avoid overdraft.

Is it a bank?

No, StashFlow is not a bank. It's a personal finance analysis tool. We don't manage bank accounts, we can't make transfers, we don't issue credit cards. We simply analyze your existing transactions to help you better understand your cashflow and avoid overdraft. You keep full control of your bank accounts.

Who is StashFlow for?

StashFlow is for anyone who wants to better understand their personal finances. If you want to know where your money goes, if you want to avoid overdraft, if you want to identify your fixed charges and optimize your budget, StashFlow is for you. It's particularly useful if you have multiple variable incomes, if you want to visualize the impact of your expenses on your balance, or if you're already overdrawn and want to better anticipate difficult periods.

Does it work in my country?

StashFlow works anywhere you can export your bank transactions as CSV. We support French formats (semicolon, comma, tabs) and automatically detect Date, Label, Debit, Credit columns. You can use StashFlow with any French bank, and we're working to extend support to other international formats. If your CSV format is different, contact us and we may be able to help!

📂 Data & Security

Protecting your data is our absolute priority. We explain everything transparently.

🔒Where is my data stored?

All your data (transactions, balances, fixed charges) is stored locally in your browser, in localStorage. This means it stays on your device and is never sent to our servers. If you change browsers, clear browser data, or use another device, your StashFlow data won't be available. But you can always reimport your CSV file to recreate your analysis.

🔒Does StashFlow access my bank account?

No, absolutely not. StashFlow has no access to your bank account. We never connect to your bank. You manually import a CSV file that you download from your banking space, and that's it. No bank connection, no passwords, no banking APIs. You keep full control of your data. For now, we don't offer automatic connection to bank accounts, and if we do one day, it will be with your explicit consent and strict respect for your privacy.

🔒Is my data sold?

No, never. We don't sell, rent, or share any data. It's simple: your data never leaves your device, so we can't sell it even if we wanted to (and we absolutely don't want to). StashFlow contains no advertising tracking, no tracking cookies, no sharing with third parties. Your financial privacy is sacred to us.

🔒Can I delete my data?

Yes, at any time. Since your data is stored locally in your browser, you can easily delete it: • Via the "Clear data" button in the application • By clearing browser data (localStorage) • By using private browsing mode Once deleted, your data is truly deleted. It's nowhere else, not even on our servers since we don't have any.

🔒Are you GDPR compliant?

Yes, absolutely. StashFlow complies with GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation). Since all your data is processed locally on your device, no personal data is collected or transferred to our servers. You have the right to view, modify, and delete your data at any time. Since everything is local, you have total control. We don't collect any personally identifiable information, so we're even beyond GDPR requirements.

📊 How it works

💡How does StashFlow calculate my balance?

StashFlow reconstructs your balance history by going back in time. You enter your current balance on the most recent day, and StashFlow calculates day by day your previous balance by doing: previous_balance = current_balance - credits + debits. It's a reverse calculation: we start from the end (your current balance) and go back to the past. If today you have €1000 and yesterday you received €200 (credit), then your balance from the day before yesterday was €1000 - €200 = €800. We continue like this until the start of your transactions.

💡Why are the numbers different from my bank?

There may be slight differences between the balance calculated by StashFlow and that displayed by your bank. Here are the possible reasons: • Pending operations: your bank may display pending transactions that StashFlow doesn't see yet in the CSV export • Rounding: some banks round differently • Bank fees: if you have fees that aren't in the CSV export • Internal transfers: some transfers between accounts can create duplicates in the analysis • Value dates: your bank may use different value dates than transaction dates These differences are generally minimal and don't affect the quality of the overall analysis.

💡How are fixed charges detected?

Our algorithm analyzes your transactions from the last 45 days to identify recurring expenses. It looks for specific patterns: • Transactions with a similar label that repeat • A stable or very close amount between each occurrence • A regular frequency (monthly, weekly, etc.) • At least 2-3 occurrences in the analyzed period For example, a Netflix subscription that appears every month at €12.99 will be detected as a monthly fixed charge. You can then validate these detected charges to include them in your projections.

💡What is "Safe to spend"?

"Safe to spend" is an estimate of what you can safely spend without risking overdraft. This value is calculated in real time taking into account: • Your current balance • Your validated upcoming fixed charges • Your recurring income (if configured) • A safety margin to avoid unexpected expenses It's an indicator to help you manage your daily budget. Note: it's an estimate based on your data, not a guarantee. Use it as a guide, not as absolute truth.

💡How does the forecast work?

The forecast shows you the future evolution of your balance over 3 months. It takes your current balance and adds/subtracts validated fixed charges at scheduled dates. If you've configured a monthly salary, it's also taken into account. Future variable expenses are not included because they're unpredictable. The forecast is an estimate based on your fixed charges. It cannot predict unexpected expenses or exceptional income. Use it as a guide to anticipate difficult periods, not as absolute truth.

📁 CSV Import

📤Where can I find my CSV file?

Each bank has its own interface, but most offer CSV export in transaction history. Here's how to do it generally: 1. Log in to your online banking space 2. Go to transaction history or account statements 3. Select a period (we recommend at least 3-6 months for a good analysis) 4. Click "Export" or "Download" 5. Choose CSV format You'll find a detailed guide by bank in our documentation. If your bank isn't listed, contact us and we can help!

📤Which banks are compatible?

StashFlow works with any bank that allows exporting transactions as CSV. We support common French formats: • CSV with semicolon (;) as separator (standard French format) • CSV with comma (,) as separator • TSV (tabs) Expected columns: Date, Label, Debit, Credit (or a single Amount field). Most French banks are compatible (Banque Populaire, Crédit Agricole, BNP Paribas, Société Générale, LCL, CIC, etc.). If your format is different, contact us with an example and we may be able to add it!

📤What should I do if my file doesn't import?

If your file is rejected on import, first check these points: • Your file contains the Date and Label columns • Dates are in a readable format (DD/MM/YYYY or YYYY-MM-DD) • Amounts are numeric (no text) • The file is not corrupted If the problem persists: • Open your file with a text editor to check its content • Simplify it by keeping only the Date, Label, Debit, Credit columns • Send us your file (anonymized) via the contact form, we can help

📤Can I import multiple accounts?

Yes, you can import multiple accounts. StashFlow supports importing multiple CSV files, for example to separate your checking account and your Revolut account. You can merge accounts to have a global view of all your balances and transactions. Balances will be added and transactions combined for a complete analysis. This is particularly useful if you use multiple accounts to better manage your finances.

🧠 Usage & Results

🎯How quickly will I see results?

You see results immediately! As soon as you import your CSV file and enter your current balance, StashFlow generates your analysis in seconds. You'll see directly: • The evolution of your balance over time • Your automatically detected fixed charges • Your estimated savings capacity • 3-month projections The more historical data you import (we recommend at least 3-6 months), the more accurate and relevant the analysis will be.

🎯Can StashFlow really help me save money?

Yes, StashFlow can help you save money in several ways: • By identifying your fixed charges, you often realize there are subscriptions you had forgotten • By visualizing the impact of your expenses on your balance, you make better decisions • By anticipating difficult periods with projections, you avoid overdraft and bank fees • By better understanding your cashflow, you naturally optimize your budget StashFlow is a decision-support tool. It doesn't work miracles, but it gives you the visibility you need to better manage your finances.

🎯Is it suitable if I'm already overdrawn?

Yes, absolutely! StashFlow is particularly useful if you're already overdrawn or close to overdraft. The tool helps you: • Visualize when you're at risk of being overdrawn in the future • Identify which fixed charges weigh most on your budget • Anticipate difficult periods to better manage them • Understand the causes of your overdrafts to avoid them By giving you this visibility, StashFlow accompanies you to gradually get out of overdraft. It's a support tool, not a financial advisor, but it can really make a difference.

🛠️ Technical

⚙️Does it work on mobile?

Yes, StashFlow works on mobile, tablet, and desktop. It's a responsive web application that adapts to all screens. You can use StashFlow from any modern browser on your phone (Chrome, Safari, Firefox, etc.). The interface automatically adapts to be optimal on small screens. No, nothing to install! StashFlow is a web application that works directly in your browser. You don't need any installation, extension, or additional software. Just open your browser, go to stashflow.app, and you're off. It works on Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, Android... Anywhere you have a modern browser.

No, for now your data is not synchronized between devices. It stays local on the device where you imported it. This is part of our "privacy-first" approach: your data never leaves your device, so it's truly private. If you want to use StashFlow on another device, you'll need to reimport your CSV file. Optional cloud synchronization will be available in the Pro version, for those who want to access their data from multiple devices while maintaining control of their privacy.
